RYA Day Skipper
The RYA Day Skipper course is the bedrock of all the RYA Motor Cruising courses. Taken over 4 days, the objective is to take charge on short passages under instruction with help and advice from your instructor. The student will also be shown how to get the best from modern electronic aids such as GPS and radar which is now pretty much standard equipment on modern motor cruisers. The award of this certificate will also entitle the holder to apply for the International Certificate of Competence - ICC - for vessels up to 24 meters.
Before attending the course the student should be able to navigate and advised to have completed the RYA Day Skipper Shore based course prior to doing the practical course. The course is by ongoing assessment and thereis no formal exam and the end of the course.
It may be possible to do the Day Skipper course without having done the shorebased theory, however this will only be available as a 6 day course (call or email for the price of this option) to allow the student to have get to grips with the basic navigational theory and may not be all water based. It will not lead to the shore based Day Skipper certificate.
